An action sport enthusiast and professional rally driver with the Hoonigan Racing Division, formerly known as the Monster World Rally Team,” Ken Block” is one of the most influential people in the World of Sports.
Block grabbed a name of a sportsman by competing in many of the action sports events like snowboarding, skateboarding and motocross. Born on November 21, 1967 in Long Beach, California, Block had the fantasy of wanting to race at a very early age.
Talking about his specialized career, with the Vermont Sports Car team providing the perfect stage for him, he made his debut in 2005 with a Subaru WRX STi. His first-ever event in the 2005 season was in Sno*Drift, where his skill let him to finish 7th overall and 5th in the Group of class N. In the 2005 season, Block had top five finishes and was placed 3rd overall in the Group of class A and 4th overall in his first Rally America National Championship under his sleeves. At the end of the 2005 season, Block added the Rally America Rookie OF The Year Award to his name. With a brilliant debutante year, Block went off to sign a new sponsorship deal with Subaru which continued till 2008 with more impressive runs in the Rally Championship. Through this deal with Subaru, Block and his DC rally teammate Travis Pastrana were known as “Subaru Rally Team USA”.
Block managed to grab his first Bronze in his first-ever X Games rally at X games XII.
From there he ended up second overall in Rally America National Championship, his best record so far of his career. Block’s increasing fame lead him to an appearance in the Segment of a motoring show Top Gear. On the 6th of January, 2010, Block had a huge uplift as the team of Monster World Rally selected Block to drive them for some rounds in the World Rally Championship, in which he campaigned the Ford Focus RS WRC 08. Block was the first ever American driver to campaign for the World Rally Championship with Ford. The deal with Ford proved fruitful for him because on February 27, 2010, Block won the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood (Rally America) for the 5th consecutive time. This achievement broke the record held by John Buffum. The celebrations did not last long as on March 23, 2011, Block and his co-driver Alex Gelsomino were taken to hospital, having rolled their Ford Fiesta RS WRC during the shakedown stage of the 2011 Rally de Portugal in Faro, Portugal.
With his high-end career, Ken Block has an estimated net worth of $200 million. But majority of his wealth comes from D.C shoes. Ken has a Ford Fiesta RS WRC, with a 2.0-liter, turbo four which produces as much as 600 horsepower and 665 pound-feet of torque, depending on gear shift. He too owns a Subaru WRX STI from his deal with Subaru at the peaks of his Rally career.
Block has come a long way to achieve success. The down-to-earth man has been awarded on many different stages of his career. He asked the world to either love what you do or do what you love as he takes Rally as his first love.
